This Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Accounting and Financial Management programme is designed to allow the key areas of accounting and financial management to be integrated within a business context. You will be encouraged to evaluate the ways that module ideas can be used to improve your understanding of the financial management of business and the role of the manager as on who is responsible for financial resources. The bachelor’s programme also generates integrative ways of looking at work problems.

The final year top-up degree can be studied as a stand-alone programme for those who already have a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business, which contains elements of accounting and finance.

  • Study in Hong Kong campus facilitated by Hong Kong based academic and student support teams
  • Upon the successful completion of this bachelor’s degree programme in Hong Kong, Graduates in Hong Kong will achieve the same awards and certificate of the degree programme in the UK main campus
  • Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS) available for Hong Kong residents

APC308 - Financial Management (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • A critical understanding of the key strategic decisions that a business mayhave to make and appreciated how accounting and finance can assist in making and evaluating those decisions.
  • A critical understanding of specific analytical skills in key decision areas within strategy and finance at local and international level.
  • A critical understanding of the limitations of the current state of financial theory in making strategic business decisions.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Competence in applying the key valuation concepts and methodologies of financial decision making to contribute to the wider decision making of the organization.

APC309 - Strategic Management Accounting (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • A Critical understanding of a range of key strategic management accounting models and concepts.
  • A Critical understanding of the strategic role of management accounting at local and international level.
  • A Critical understanding of the merits and limitations of management accounting theory.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • How to apply the key management accounting concepts and methodologies in order to contribute to successful decision making in an organisation.

APC313 - Financial Markets (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • An ability to explain the operation of  financial markets and understand their importance.
  • An ability to explain  key theories and models of financial markets including  the efficient market hypothesis, and understand  key implications.
  • An ability to analyse the operations and the  efficiency of  financial markets.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • An ability to identify and collect appropriate financial data and indices including share prices to carry out analysis of operations and efficiency of financial markets.

APC311 - International Financial Reporting (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • A critical appreciation of the current key issues in international financial reporting.
  • A critical understanding of the conceptual framework as a paradigm for accounting.
  • A critical understanding of the uses and limits of financial information.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • An ability to demonstrate cognitive skills of critical thinking and analysis.

SIM335 - Managing Projects (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Critically evaluate and apply a range of skills and techniques associated with the management of projects.
  • Demonstrate capability to evaluate projects from a financial, human resource and time related perspective.
  • Appreciate the requirements for control and the application of control mechanisms.
  • Evaluate the relationship between time, cost and quality, and understand the alternative approaches available for managing them.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Demonstrate critical thinking and analysis skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply and evaluate tools and techniques associated with the management of projects.
  • Demonstrate diagnostic skills.

SIM337 - Contemporary Developments in Business and Management (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of how a range of factors in the domestic and international environment impact on business.
  • A deeper knowledge and understanding of how specific external environmental factors impact on a particular organization in a designated industry-sector.
  • Appreciate the requirements for control and the application of control mechanisms.
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of how a particular organization in a designated industry-sector has responded to specific external environmental factors.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • An ability to research, analyze and explain how a range of factors in the domestic and international environment impact on business.
  • An ability to research, analyze and explain how specific external environmental factors impact on a particular organization in a designated industry-sector.
  • An ability to critically evaluate how a particular organization in a designated industry-sector has or might respond to external environmental factors.

Mode of Study
Part Time Blended Learning
  • This degree can be completed in a minimum of 9 months.
  • Part-time tuition includes 24 hours of online lectures and 12 hours of face-to-face tutorials per 20-credit module.
  • Tutorial schedule is designed to suit busy professionals who work and study at the same time.
Assessment
6 assignments Six in each year level
  • This programme is assessed by 6 assignments.

Entry Requirements
HKDSE/HKCEE/HKALE/IB Diploma/Associate Degree/Higher Diploma
  • Holder of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business (Accounting); OR
  • Applicants who are holders of Higher Diploma/Associate Degree in Accounting or equivalent are considered on a case by case basis; AND
  • English proficiency of IELTS 6.0; GCSE Grade C or equivalent.
  • Other students without the above qualification are considered on a case by case basis or can enter the final year top-up programme via HND pathways.

Candidates whose first language is English or whose previous verified qualification was taught and assessed in English are exempted from the aforementioned English Language requirement.
