TLH302 - Strategic Planning For Tourism and Leisure (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  1. A critical appreciation of the political, social and economic forces involved in the planning and development of the tourism and leisure industry.
  2. Synthesis of critical knowledge of the ways in which the forces identified in learning outcome 1 are manifest in the actions of relevant stakeholder groups.
  3. Judgment of the impact of the forces and stakeholder actions identified in learning outcomes 1 and 2 on the development of the tourism and leisure industry.
  4. The ability to conduct secondary research on the tourism and leisure industry and critically appraise the outcomes.
  5. The ability to apply socio-political academic concepts to generate critical understanding of the nature of tourism and leisure planning and development and then apply this critical understanding strategically.

TLH307 - Urban Tourism (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  1. To define and discuss the characteristics of visitors to urban destinations.
  2. To identify and critically evaluate the nature and role of specific components of the visitor product provided by urban destinations.
  3. To critically debate management and marketing features distinct to urban sites.
  4. To conduct independent research
  5. Skills of analysis, interpretation, evaluation and application in dealing with concepts and data in the fields of urban tourism, as well as to present research results in a professional and creative way.

TLH314 - International Hospitality Management (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  1. The impact of globalization on strategic hospitality management.
  2. Traditional and contemporary approaches to management in the hospitality industries.
  3. Critically evaluate contemporary issues in hospitality management.
  4. Communicate their ideas in written form.


TLH334 - Gastronomy (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Knowledge of the role of food and drink for tourism, hospitality and events.
  2. Knowledge of the interrelationship between food and drink and the tourism, hospitality and event experience.
  3. The ability to demonstrate awareness of the interaction between socialisation, culture, food and drink, and tourism.
  4. The ability to explore the significance of food and drink for local culture.

TLH339 - Service Quality (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Knowledge of the main theories and principles surrounding the management of service quality.
  • Knowledge of the range and importance of tools used for assessing service quality.
  • The ability to critically appraise the management of service quality for a given service organization.
  • The ability to critically evaluate a range of theories and sources associated with service quality.

TLH342 - Digital Technologies In The Visitor Economy (20 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Knowledge of the impacts, challenges and opportunities of technological developments which underpin digital technologies within tourism, hospitality, events and aviation.
  • Knowledge of digital technology strategies for the visitor economy.
  • The ability to critically reflect, analyse and apply digital technology in the context of the visitor economy.

Mode of Study
Part Time Face-to-face (On campus / MS Teams)
  • This degree can be completed in a minimum of 9 months.
  • Part-time tuition includes 24 hours of online lectures and 12 hours of face-to-face tutorials per 20-credit module.
  • The tutorial schedule is designed to suit busy professionals who work and study at the same time.
Assessment
6 assignments Six in each year level
  • This programme is assessed by 6 assignments.

Entry Requirements
HKDSE/HKCEE/HKALE/IB Diploma/Associate Degree/Higher Diploma
  • Holder of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Travel and Tourism Management; OR
  • Applicants who are holders of a Higher Diploma/Associate Degree in Tourism / Hospitality / Hotel Management or equivalent are considered on a case-by-case basis; AND
  • English proficiency of IELTS 6.0; GCSE Grade C or equivalent.
  • Other students without the above qualification are considered on a case-by-case basis or can enter the final year top-up programme via HND pathways.

Candidates whose first language is English or whose previous verified qualification was taught and assessed in English are exempted from the aforementioned English Language requirement.
