Do you want to progress your career in international business and management?

This course will strengthen your critical understanding of international business, trade and strategy.

You will explore international trade, strategy, strategic foresight, leadership skills, business analytics, marketing management and cross cultural management. You will also be guided in your final piece of work; a dissertation on an international business management topic of your choosing.

Programme features :

  • A range of teaching and learning methods including online lectures, group discussion will be used to encourage you to develop intellectual and cognitive skills
  • Case study-based learning is employed throughout the course and is intended to enable you to develop, inter alia, the ability to identify the issues in need of research, apply subject specific knowledge to a realistic and/or practical context
  • Make critical judgments of the merits of a particular argument and present and make reasoned choices between alternative solutions
  • Complete 180 credits with 4 modules and 1 MSc IBM Dissertation’s in 12 months
  • Assessment methods include written reports, research papers and the master’s project
  • An easy-to-use interactive online learning platform with access to more than 10,000 online learning resources including e-books and journals in business
  • Study anywhere online through Hong Kong campus facilitated by Hong Kong based academic and student support teams
  • Upon the successful completion of this online master’s degree programme, graduates will achieve the same awards and certificate as the degree programme in the UK main campus

PGBM136 - Contemporary International Human Resource Management (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • A definitive, critical and comparative understanding of International Human Resource Management strategies, policy and practice across a diverse range of organizational contexts at all levels of the organization.
  • A critical understanding of a range of theoretical perspectives used to compare and contrast differences in National and International Culture in a range of diverse contexts, and the resulting HR implications.
  • An appreciation and understanding of the complexity and issues associated with managing staff and organisations’ in dynamic environments and political changing environments. (E.g. post Brexit or similar political change).

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Effective application of different employment policies, legislation and practices evident in a multi-National Corporation.
  • An ability to evaluate knowledge, skill and abilities required by an International/Global manager pre, during and post assignment.
  • A cultural sensitivity to difference when organizing and managing cross border.

PGBM134 - Finance and Project Management (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • An appreciation of the requirements for financial and management control and the application of project control processes.
  • Critical understanding of the role of accounting information within an organisations decision making.
  • A critical understanding of the relationship between financial resources, time, and quality in achieving project objectives.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • The cognitive skills of critical thinking and analysis in showing how the finance function can make a significant contribution to the successful strategic management of an organisations projects.
  • The ability to apply and evaluate tools and techniques associated with financial management and the management of projects.
  • The capability to evaluate projects from a financial, human resource and time related perspective.

PGBM127 - Markets & Marketing in a Digital World (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of key marketing concepts & theories and the related academic literature.
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of markets and their different contexts.
  • Evaluate and provide an overview of the key drivers of change for markets & marketing in the digital age.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply critical evaluation and strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify, select, analyse, synthesize and interpret credible information whether from academic or the trade press sources.

PGBM135 - Global Strategy and Foresight (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • That you can critically evaluate the theoretical basis for sources of competitive advantage and evaluate their relevance to practice.
  • That you can critique the relationship between organisational vision, strategic objectives, intent, resources, planning and the firm’s environment.
  • That you have an appreciation for the conceptual theories of ‘internationalisation, innovation and competitive advantage’ to different industries and locations.
  • That you can demonstrate critical understanding and application of relevant theories and tools associated with strategic foresight and the need for organisational future orientation.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • How to review and present their critical knowledge of selected international business, strategy and foresight literature.
  • Your ability to evaluate an organisation’s competitive environment, analyse its competitive positions and identify its strategic resources, capabilities and core competences.
  • Your ability to explore global trends and drivers of change with a pursuit of identifying attractive future markets.
  • How to identify the key resources, capabilities and competences for an organisation’s future growth and sustainability.
  • How to use relevant foresight tools to understand and articulate the dynamic nature of a given industry, its future trajectory and develop plausible scenarios.

PGBM115 - MSc IBM Dissertation (60 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Identify specific substantive problems or issues within international business management or organisation or business sector placing them into a strategic context within the research investigation.
  • Identify and formulate research questions appropriate at a post-graduate level.
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of the research topic through an in-depth analysis of relevant literature.
  • Design appropriate research strategy to investigate the identified problem.
  • Design and undertake relevant qualitative and / or quantitative research as necessary to analyse the identified problem.
  • Analyse, interpret and critically evaluate information relevant to the research topic drawing conclusions about the results to assist the conduct of international business management.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Ability to act independently, with limited guidance in planning and undertaking research activity on international business management issues, demonstrating effective self-direction.
  • Ability to engage in critical thinking and being creative in organising, analysing, synthesising and appraising relevant literature.
  • Ability to collect data effectively, analyse, interpret and present findings in a manner that is clear and comprehensive.

Part Time Online Learning
  • This master’s programme of International Business Management can be completed in 12 months.
Assessment
4 assignments and 1 dissertation Four in total
  • There is one assessment for each module (Four in total).
  • There is one dissertation for this programme.

Entry Requirements
Degree / relevant work experience
  • A bachelor’s degree with honours (2:2 or above / lower second class level); OR
  • A professional qualification (or combination of qualifications) recognised as being the equivalent of an honours degree; OR
  • Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may exceptionally be considered (normally following an interview) at the discretion of the programme leader; AND
  • English proficiency equivalent to HKDSE Level 3 / IELTS 6.0. Candidates whose first language is English or whose previous verified qualification was taught and assessed in English are exempted from the aforementioned English Language requirement.
