  • Elevate Your Pharmacy Career: MSc Clinical Pharmacy

This part-time 100% distance learning MSc Clinical Pharmacy programme provides an opportunity for pharmacists to develop a clinical knowledge base, expertise and skills in evidence-based practice, specialist therapeutic areas, and clinical research. This course is offered in collaboration with the University of Sunderland, UK. It allows patient-facing pharmacists in all sectors to build upon current knowledge and experience and extend their professional development.

This is a 2-year part-time course in HK. It runs on a distance learning basis and allows you to combine study with work and family commitments. Access all learning materials through the University VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) and attend online webinars in October, January and April. Learn from key and expert speakers within their respective fields and participate in workshop-based sessions.

Content
180 credits 5 modules and 1 project

In each stage of the course, you must successfully attain 60 credits in order to progress into the next stage. Taught postgraduate programmes generally consist of a number of taught modules leading to the award of a Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits) or Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits) or a Masters qualification (180 credits).

Foundations of Clinical Practice (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes

  • Enhance Core Skills: Strengthen your capabilities as a safe and effective practitioner while deepening your critical understanding of the clinical pharmacist’s role.
  • Develop Communication and Clinical Decision-Making: Advance your consultation and history-taking skills, integrating diagnostic testing into patient-centred care.
  • Expand Clinical Expertise: Build on existing knowledge with an evidence-based approach to problem-solving, prioritising patient safety and systematic decision-making.

Leadership in Healthcare (15 credits)

Learning Outcomes

  • Strengthen Leadership Skills: Explore your strengths and develop the qualities needed to build and lead effective teams.
  • Drive Workplace Improvement: Learn how to advocate for and implement change using quality improvement and leadership strategies.
  • Enhance Medication Safety: Deepen your knowledge of risk management and error reporting to improve patient outcomes and reduce adverse events./li>

Research in Healthcare (15 credits)

Learning Outcomes

  • Embrace Evidence-Based Practice: Gain the skills to create, analyse, critique, and apply evidence to enhance healthcare outcomes.
  • Understand Research Principles: Explore key approaches, from hypothesis formation to the synthesis of systematic reviews.
  • Develop a Research Protocol: Design a research project on a topic of your choice, guided by the principles of healthcare research.

Clinical Practice and Education (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes

  • Advance Acute Care Expertise: Build your skills in acute patient care while fostering personal development, identifying learning opportunities and reflecting on feedback.
  • Strengthen Clinical Reasoning: Develop confidence in evaluating evidence, creating management plans, and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Support and Educate Others: Explore teaching and learning theories used in clinical education and use your expertise to mentor and train colleagues effectively.

Long-term Conditions (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes

  • Enhance Long-Term Care Expertise: Develop your knowledge and skills in managing long-term conditions using a holistic approach within a multidisciplinary team across care sectors.
  • Evaluate and Apply Evidence: Strengthen your ability to critically evaluate the evidence for managing long-term conditions, while considering the importance of health promotion and public engagement.
  • Build a Professional Portfolio: Create a portfolio showcasing your expertise in caring for patients with long-term conditions and your ongoing professional development.

Research Project (60 credits)

Learning Outcome

  • Explore Research Methods: Gain a comprehensive understanding of research methods, including ethical, theoretical, and logistical considerations.
  • Design and Conduct Investigative Research: Learn to critically evaluate research literature, and design, justify, and carry out research in your chosen clinical field.
  • Translate Findings into Practice: Develop the ability to communicate research findings effectively and identify ways to apply them to improve healthcare practice.

Part Time Distance Learning
  • This 100% distance learning MSc Clinical Pharmacy course can be completed in a minimum of 24 months.
Assessment
5 assignments and 1 project Five in total
  • There are five assessments for this programme.
  • There is one project for this programme.
  • Assessment by coursework, portfolios, examination, oral presentation, and final project report.
Entry Requirements
Bachelors (Honours) Degree
  • have a minimum of lower-second-class honours degree in pharmacy (or equivalent) and registration as a pharmacist in Hong Kong; OR
  • BPharm graduates from countries that do not normally award honours may also apply, provided they are registered as a pharmacist in Hong Kong;
  • If the degree is from an university where the language of teaching and assessment is not in English, applicants shall provide evidence of English proficiency, such as an overall band of 6.0 or above with no subtests lower than 6.0 in the IELTS or TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent qualifications.
