  • BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management (Top-Up Degree) Pathway

This Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Accounting and Financial Management programme is designed to allow the key areas of accounting and financial management to be integrated within a business context. You will be encouraged to evaluate the ways that module ideas can be used to improve your understanding of the financial management of business and the role of the manager as on who is responsible for financial resources. The bachelor’s programme also generates integrative ways of looking at work problems.

The final year top-up degree can be studied as a stand-alone programme for those who already have a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business, which contains elements of accounting and finance.

  • Study in Hong Kong campus facilitated by Hong Kong based academic and student support teams
  • Upon the successful completion of this bachelor’s degree programme in Hong Kong, Graduates in Hong Kong will achieve the same awards and certificates of the degree programme in the UK main campus

UGB392 - Financial Management (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Evaluate key strategic decisions that a business may have to make and appreciated how accounting and finance can assist in making and evaluating those decisions.
  • Critically understand specific analytical skills in key decision areas within strategy and finance at local and international level.
  • Appraise the limitations of the current state of financial theory in making sustainable strategic business decisions.
  • Apply key valuation concepts and methodologies of financial decision making in order to contribute to the wider sustainable decision making of the organisation.

UGB393 - Strategic Management Accounting (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Evaluate a range of key sustainable strategic management accounting models and concepts.
  • Critically understand specific analytical skills in key areas within management accounting at local and international level.
  • Appraise the role and limitations of management accounting theory.
  • Apply key management accounting concepts and methodologies in order to contribute to successful, sustainable decision making in an organisation.

UGB394 - International Financial Reporting (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Appreciate the current key issues in international financial reporting.
  • Critically understand the conceptual framework as a paradigm for sustainable accounting.
  • Analyse and evaluate  financial reports for strategic decision making.
  • Apply cognitive skills of critical thinking and analysis.

UGB395 - Corporate Governance and Ethics (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Critically discuss the key sustainable corporate governance and ethics concepts.
  • Demonstrate a distinguished understanding of different theoretical perspectives on corporate governance and understand their assumptions about key actors, motives and control mechanisms.
  • Explore international comparative perspectives of corporate governance, focusing on the system found in the UK and contrasting this with a range of different corporate governance systems in countries around the world.
  • Construct critical thinking about a range of approaches and options for corporate accountability and ethics requiring the organisation of thoughts, analysis, synthesis and critical appraisal.

Mode of Study
Part Time Face-to-face (On campus / MS Teams)
  • This degree can be completed in a minimum of 12 months.
  • Each module consists of 60 hours with a combination of online lectures and face-to-face tutorials.
  • Tutorial schedule is designed to suit busy professionals who work and study at the same time.

4 assignments Four in each year level
  • This programme is assessed by 4 assignments.

Entry Requirements
HKDSE/HKCEE/HKALE/IB Diploma/Associate Degree/Higher Diploma
  • Holder of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business (Accounting); OR
  • Applicants who are holders of a Higher Diploma/Associate Degree in Accounting or equivalent are considered on a case-by-case basis; AND
  • English proficiency of IELTS 6.0; GCSE Grade C or equivalent.
  • Other students without the above qualification are considered on a case-by-case basis or can enter the final year top-up programme via HND pathways.

Candidates whose first language is English or whose previous verified qualification was taught and assessed in English are exempted from the aforementioned English Language requirement.

  • Top-up Degree: HKD80,000* / 12 months
*This does not include the HKD600 administration fee. The tuition fees shown above refer to the fees for 2024/25, and the fees for 2025/26 are subject to review.
