Do you want to progress your career in international business and management?

This course will strengthen your critical understanding of international business, trade and strategy.

You will explore international trade, strategy, strategic foresight, leadership skills, business analytics, marketing management and cross cultural management. You will also be guided in your final piece of work; a dissertation on an international business management topic of your choosing.

Programme features

  • A range of teaching and learning methods including online lectures, group discussion will be used to encourage you to develop intellectual and cognitive skills
  • Case study-based learning is employed throughout the course and is intended to enable you to develop, inter alia, the ability to identify the issues in need of research, apply subject specific knowledge to a realistic and/or practical context
  • Make critical judgments of the merits of a particular argument and present and make reasoned choices between alternative solutions
  • Complete 180 credits with 4 modules and 1 MSc IBM Dissertation’s in 12 months
  • Assessment methods include written reports, research papers and the master’s project
  • An easy-to-use interactive online learning platform with access to more than 10,000 online learning resources including e-books and journals in business
  • Study anywhere online through Hong Kong campus facilitated by Hong Kong based academic and student support teams
  • Upon the successful completion of this online master’s degree programme, graduates will achieve the same awards and certificate as the degree programme in the UK main campus

180 credits 4 modules and 1 project
MGTM14 - Strategic Management and Foresight (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Evaluate and apply the key theories and frameworks in strategic management and organisational foresight.
  • Critique the relationship between corporate vision, strategic objectives, intent, resources, planning, the firm’s environment, and its impact on the firm competitive advantage.
  • Develop a critical understanding of the interactions between different strategies, business models, emerging digital technologies, organisational foresight, and the impact of digital and the sustainability agenda on strategy formation and development.

MGTM15 - HRM In An International and Digital Context (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Critically review the complexity associated with managing staff and organisations within the dynamic digital changing global environment.
  • Evaluate International Human Resource Management strategies, policy, and ethical sustainable practices across a diverse range of organisational contexts.
  • Critically analyse the ways in which workplace cultures vary around the world, informed by multinational organisations.
  • Evaluate knowledge, skills and abilities required by an International/Global manager pre, during and post assignment.

MGTM27 - International Marketing (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Students will critically examine and apply marketing concepts, theories and frameworks evaluating the merits of whether to internationalise and which markets to enter. Knowledge of strategic market entry models is developed and critically applied in a range of market contexts.
  • Identifying needs and wants of customers in international markets is critical to the implementation of international marketing and evaluating marketing mix decisions related to product, pricing, distribution, and communication keeping in view the diverse consumer and market behavior across different countries.
  • The module context is set within the highly dynamic international marketing environment and students develop the ability to appreciate that environmental challenges are beyond the control of a marketer, the key to success in international markets lies in responding competitively by adopting an effective marketing strategy.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Evaluate conceptual frameworks related to management decisions on globalisation and international market selection.
  • Evaluate the strategic impact of the external environment, including sustainable and digital, on the marketing decisions of organisations.
  • Develop effective and sustainable market responsive marketing programmes.


MGTM32 - Management In Practice (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • The impact today of the history of research on theories of management.
  • Planning strategies and objectives.
  • Creating systems, coordinating activities, managing AI and organizing.
  • Human Resource Management: Communicating and motivating employees.
  • Financial management: Measuring effectiveness against costs.
  • Team Building, Leadership and Project Management.
  • What makes a good manager and Professional Identity.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Demonstrate an appreciation of several different theories of management to enable the application of the principles of management within a given context.
  • Critically understand the impact of an organisation’s financial and HRM development planning on its ethical, value-based management and leadership strategy(ies) and how it affects the relationship on the staff welfare environment.
  • Apply appropriate cognitive skills in critical thinking and analysis when evaluating different management/marketing/project management approaches/tools in a specific context.

MGTM16 - International Business Management Research Project (60 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Identify specific substantive problems or issues within international business management or organisation or business sector placing them into a strategic context within the research investigation.
  • Identify and formulate research questions appropriate at a post-graduate level.
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of the research topic through an in-depth analysis of relevant literature.
  • Design appropriate research strategy to investigate the identified problem.
  • Design and undertake relevant qualitative and / or quantitative research as necessary to analyse the identified problem.
  • Analyse, interpret and critically evaluate information relevant to the research topic drawing conclusions about the results to assist the conduct of international business management.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Critically analyse and investigate a relevant research problem demonstrating a systematic understanding of knowledge and a critical awareness of current issues in international business management and an advanced critical understanding of the pertinent theories.
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and understanding of research methodology, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques to create and interpret knowledge.
  • Evidence self-direction, reflection, and originality to independently design an appropriate research strategy to investigate the identified problem, manage the project and deliver the research output in the required format.

  • This master’s programme of International Business Management can be completed in 12 months.

  • There is one assessment for each module (Four in total).
  • There is one project for this programme.

Entry Requirements
Degree / relevant work experience
  • A bachelor’s degree with honours (2:2 or above / lower second class level); OR
  • A professional qualification (or combination of qualifications) recognised as being the equivalent of an honours degree; OR
  • Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may exceptionally be considered (normally following an interview) at the discretion of the programme leader; AND
  • English proficiency equivalent to HKDSE Level 3 / IELTS 6.0. Candidates whose first language is English or whose previous verified qualification was taught and assessed in English are exempted from the aforementioned English Language requirement.
