This part-time Master of Business Administration programme (MBA) in Hong Kong will accelerate your career development into highly paid management positions. Aimed at graduates with significant business/management experience, it will significantly enhance your capability to function as a senior manager within a wide range of commercial and service organisations.

MGTM01 - Strategic Leadership for a Sustainable Future (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Students will be introduced to the fundamental skills of reflective practice and its relation to effective and strategic leadership development. This will include working with local and national business leaders to identify the key leadership attributes that are most highly sought after by todays’ employers.
  • Students will explore the various theoretical approaches to leadership and will be encouraged to take a critical approach to considering their applicability to the future world of work
  • Students will explore the UN Sustainability Goals and analyse them in relation to specific case study organisations at a local, national and international level. Students will be encouraged to consider the implications of the UN Sustainability Goals in relation to their own leadership practice and future leadership development.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Critically evaluate mainstream approaches to leadership and management in relation to current and future business needs.
  • Identify the core leadership skills sought after by employers and appraise their own leadership practice in relation to these.
  • Engage in reflective leadership practice to understand their strengths and areas for development in relation to sustainable and digital leadership.

MGTM02 - International Business in Context (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Working with live organisations to understand the characteristics of international, global, multinational and transnational organisations and how they develop and evolve over time.
  • The complex and unique dimensions of international business.
  • Comparative business environments and their impact on sustainable business activities, strategies and operations.
  • The role of innovation in maintaining competitive advantage in international business and the importance of international trade.
  • The process of developing management networks and the impact of this on international success.
  • International market entry strategies and development.
  • The digital competencies required to be effective in the field of international business.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Critically analyse the key approaches to developing sustainable international business strategies and building competitive advantage within international business operations.
  • Evaluate the challenges faced by live organisations conducting business internationally and recommend evidence based solutions to these challenges.
  • Demonstrate digital competency in developing sustainable international business strategies.

MGTM03 - Digital Enterprise and Innovation (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • An introduction to digital enterprise grounding student’s knowledge of the current status of, and the challenges faced, by local, national and international enterprises.
  • Insight into the culture in digital enterprises as a business survival approach.
  • Explore in detail the process of communication in digital and virtual teams and the challenges and opportunities associated with this way of working.
  • Consideration of the role of digital in Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainable digital practices.
  • Understanding enterprise’s approach to digital strategies and the impact of the strategies developed.
  • Exploring different digital leadership styles and the competencies of a digital leader.
  • Focus on what we mean by innovation in the digital era exploring trends and future perspectives to further develop students’ employability profiles.
  • Understanding the role, and importance of, digital transformation in IR (industrial revolution) 4.0.
  • Finish the module by considering the future of digital enterprises and innovation.

  • Evaluate the digital maturity of enterprises at a local, national and international level.
  • Formulate digital business strategies that address specific organisational needs in the IR (Industrial Revolution) 4.0 era.
  • Critically analyse the innovation processes within digital enterprises.
  • Develop business strategies that embed the principles of sustainable digital practices.

MGTM04 - Corporate Governance and Financial Management (30 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • The introduction to corporate governance and investing and financing decisions will present an overview of corporate governance along with a framework for understanding and analysing sustainable corporate governance and stakeholder management.
  • Portfolio management and wealth planning presents the fundamentals of portfolio and risk management, portfolio planning and construction by focusing on the needs of individual and institutional investors along with a range of available investment solutions. The capital asset pricing model is used to identify optimal risk in portfolios.
  • Explore the underlying framework for corporate financing and investment decisions by focusing on financial objectives, evaluation procedures, capital structure, working capital management and investment appraisal. Students will also focus on the importance of value, risk, the expected rate of return and the sustainable long-term strategic finances and policies.

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Evaluate key debates about corporate finance and decision – making process within the context of sustainable governance.
  • Assess the impact of the relationship between investment and financing decisions on shareholder value.
  • Evaluate financial markets activities and operations in a digital environment using different theoretical tools.
  • Analyse financial data using the financial market simulator for decision making.

MGTM05 - MBA Research Project (60 credits)

Learning Outcomes – Knowledge:

  • Developing, Leading and Management Competence: This will be achieved by the delivery and consideration of practice-based seminars covering critical skills, research practice skills and employability. This will support the self-reflection element of the assessment to enable the student to demonstrate personal development and mastery of relevant postgraduate skills.
  • Mindsets in a global business environment: Using research-informed literature and mini-presentations from business leaders to consider mindsets which are beneficial to a contemporary business environment.
  • Professional identity and presenting ourselves professionally: Drawing on relevant academic and practitioner perspectives to consider the concept of identity. Activities are designed to facilitate reflection on professional identity to-date, as well as reflecting forward on areas for development in line with future goals. There are also opportunities to share and present reflections with peers and professional stakeholders.
  • Preparing for applied research projects: A critical evaluation of the concept of applied research projects, drawing on examples of contemporary research into business issues, questions and/or debates. This will enable the student to consider the strategic context in which the project will be set as well as determining the scope of the project.
  • Searching for and analysing secondary sources: Guided instruction of accessing and using library resources to search databases and company reports to access a range of contemporary data to contextualise research environments. Critical evaluation of the use of sources and their application to organisation/environment-based research.
  • Research philosophies, design, methods, and analysis: Critical discussion of texts concerning the different layers of undertaking primary research. Theoretical texts and empirical journal articles will be used to facilitate discussions about philosophical and practical decisions concerning the suitability of dimensions, approaches, and research methods. This will support the student in clarifying their thinking of the variety of research methodologies available.
  • Research ethics: Critical debate about research ethics and the importance of undertaking ethical practice when conducting research. Guided instruction about the University’s research ethics process.
  • Structuring and writing research projects: Critical discussion about the research journey from planning and proposal to final research project, including features of academic writing.
  • Researching professional practice: Critical evaluation of journal articles and practices which focus on researching and reflecting on professional practice within a business environment. Discussions will facilitate the development of practices which will inform the writing of the reflective commentary (one section of the research report).

Learning Outcomes – Skills:

  • Critically evaluate a substantive authentic business issue within an organisation or business sector.
  • Conduct a relevant research investigation into an authentic business issue adhering to ethical guidelines.
  • Produce sustainable recommendations for strategic change in the organisation/sector investigated.
  • Critically reflect on their professional identity and personal learning which has taken place to inform future career development.

Mode of Study
Part Time Blended Learning
  • The course can be completed within 15 months.
  • Each module consists of 30-40 hours with a combination of online lectures and face-to-face tutorials.
  • We recommend an average of 12 hours of study time per week for this programme.

Entry Requirements
Degree / Advanced Level Diploma
  • Possess an undergraduate honors degree with a lower second class or above from a recognised university, and have a minimum of six months of business-related work experience; OR
  • Demonstrate an academic achievement to an advanced diploma level in any subject area or equivalent, and have five years of work experience at a managerial level; AND
  • English proficiency is equivalent to HKDSE Level 3 / IELTS 6.0. Candidates whose first language is English or whose previous verified qualification was taught and assessed in English are exempted from the aforementioned English Language requirement.
